| Victoria L. Rich, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Victoria Rich is recognized for her leadership in healthcare, business and nursing education, and most notably for her pioneering work in patient safety and cultural diversity. Dr. Rich has developed numerous patient safety initiatives for healthcare systems both nationally and internationally. Her experiential knowledge enabled her to develop a model for creating a risk reduction culture in healthcare through the process of systemic mindfulness. She is an acknowledged expert in root cause analysis and in the development of corrective action plans for hospitals and state and federal agencies. A co - founder of Rich and Rich Consultants, her expertise is sought by health care executives to improve programs and initiatives for patient safety.
In 2003, Dr. Rich in collaboration with Dr. Afaf Meleis, Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and Dr. Barbara Nichols, CEO for Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools
(CGFNS), established the Global Nurse Program for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Among many endeavors, Dr. Rich is currently working with Botswana Nursing Leadership to further the reach of the Global Nurse Program through organized nursing exchange curricula.
Dr. Rich received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her M.S.N. and Ph.D. in nursing administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Rich, a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, is currently Chief Nurse Executive and Associate Executive Director at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Practice at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Dr. Rich teaches as an adjunct Associate Professor with the Associated faculty at Penn's School of Nursing. She directs inpatient and outpatient nursing practice at the 800-bed, quaternary acute care academic center and 47 medical practice sites. Since 2002, she has served in this position as a senior hospital administrator to implement the academic center's missions, strategic plans, patient care programs, and the Nursing profession's budgets, resource allocations and operational plans.
Additionally, Dr. Rich serves as (1) an expert peer reviewer for the United States Health Resources and Service Administration; (2) a nurse consultant in the area of medication administration safety and Smart Pump infusion technology; and (3) is a patient safety consultant to the Federal Drug Administration for regulations related to safe medical devices.
