Evolution of Research

The Center for Patient Safety Research and Practice is undergoing a major evolution by moving from a government funded Center of Excellence with a primary focus on medication errors and patient safety research to becoming the thought leader in healthcare safety.
As the Center expands, its mission is to serve as the leader in knowledge development on patient safety and be the most reliable evaluator of promising interventions that can measurably reduce medical errors and improve the overall quality of healthcare.

Creating Safety Best Practices

The Center for Patient Safety Research and Practice has become a model for safety, from groundbreaking research to implementation of solutions in everyday healthcare practice. Our research has demonstrated a number of practices that can prevent many injuries and situations that may cause injuries.
We evaluate interventions, systems, education and public policy to create new knowledge and improve the safety of patients wherever they receive care be it — in the hospital, in the doctor's office, at the pharmacy, in their homes or in long term care facilities.
With experts in fields ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, the Center's research is connected directly to the patient bedside.

Pioneer, Engage, Collaborate

The Center is building on three overarching and related activities to evolve and grow.
•Pioneer a national patient safety research agenda that builds and catalyzes a patient safety research workforce across primary, ambulatory and tertiary care settings with new approaches and technologies.
     •Engage
partners from non-profit, for profit and government settings that can innovate, lead and educate current and future practitioners.
     •Collaborate
with leaders in patient safety and healthcare quality improvement to change the culture of healthcare delivery so that patient safety becomes first among the values for all practitioners and health delivery systems.
